1990 Orange Juice Bottle Design
Designed by Graeme MacDonald
Made by Contaplas in Sydney
Released in 1990
This was the first blow-moulded juice bottle in Australia to feature a handle large enough for an adult to pick up using 4 fingers. Several other manufactures followed within the next 2 years and eventually this format became almost universal.
The technical issues faced with this design revolved around moulding the handle with such a large opening and maintaining a shape that would still fill at high speed on the bottling line.
Other considerations included maximising the label area and base stability.
Contaplas, who manufactured the bottles were owned by Graeme Lambert, also known for his exploits in the Admirals Cup.
