1983 Prime Computer Robot Design
Exterior designed by Graeme MacDonald, engineering by Lee Blattmann
Designed and made at Design Field in Sydney
Named Albert EinPrime after a public competition, the Prime Robot was used in television campaigns, print adverts and public events for a number of years.
The design followed much along the lines of C3PO - which followed much along the lines of the robot in the 1927 film Metropolis (the most expensive silent movie ever made).
The Prime Robot was vacuum formed from polystyrene sheet over more than 20 different handmade moulds. The majority of the parts were then glued and painted in white acrylic. The eye sockets and ears were plated in 18 carat gold and the lenses vacuum metalised.
